After a frustrating game two loss on Wednesday, the Dogs came back with some fire in their hearts on Thursday. Not once, not twice, but three times did the Dogs give up a lead only to come back and tie it in the next half inning, with the final blow coming in the ninth, giving Chicago a 7-6 win in comeback fashion.
The Dogs needed just three pitchers in the series finale, with both relievers going multiple innings. Andres Diaz was spectacular through four of the five innings he tossed, as he headed into the fifth without giving up a run. Unfortunately, Milwaukee would end up scoring four, three of which were earned, and that spelled the end of the day for Diaz. He struck out four in his five innings of work. Cade Herrmann gave up just one run in two innings, striking out one, and Dominic Guzman struck out four in his two innings, allowing one run on no hits and two walks. He earned the win in this back-and-forth affair.
As has been the usual lately, there was plenty of contribution up and down the Dogs lineup on Thursday night, but a few players stood out. Jacob Maiben collected two hits, one of which was a game-tying solo shot in the top of the eighth inning. Jaxx Groshans reached base four times, and scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth. Nick Roselli collected two hits and a walk, and Giovanni DiGiacomo put the Dogs up in the ninth on a two-run single down the left field line.
The Dogs begain the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings down by a run. They not only scored to tie in the first two innings, but were able to come back a third time, even scoring an additional run to take the lead, and power through a tough game on the road to earn a series victory against their division rivals.
