Boomers Pull Away Late to Blank Traverse City

SCHAUMBURG, IL —The East Division champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, opened the final home series of the season by pulling away from the Traverse City Beach Bums to score a 5-0 shutout victory. Kit Fowler twirled seven shutout innings. The rookie did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and finished the outing allowing just two hits while striking out five. Fowler became the pitcher of record when Tanner Pinkston nailed his first professional homer in the bottom of the seventh. The Boomers padded the lead with four runs in the eighth including a pair on a triple from Zack Weigel. Rob McDonnell and Evan Boyd combined to finish a three-hit shutout. The Boomers, winners of five in a row, finished with eight hits, two of which came from Pinkston. The club tallied five extra-base hits in the eighth shutout of the season.
