Mammoths Defeat Hoppers 8-1 Behind Early Offensive Surge

UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (10-4) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Eastside Diamond Hoppers #-12), 8-1, on Friday night at UWM Field. The Mammoths scored five runs over the first two innings and added three more in the eighth to secure the victory.

The Hoppers struck first when David Kedrow drove in Kevon Jackson with an RBI single in the top of the first inning, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Jackson paced the Hoppers offense with two of the team’s three hits while also swiping a base.

The Mammoths answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning. A defensive miscue helped spark a three-run frame before Tommy Stevenson delivered a key RBI hit. The Mammoths added two more runs in the second inning, highlighted by a solo home run from Caleb Marmo, extending the lead to 5-1.

Stevenson finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Marmo drove in two runs and scored twice. Dante Morton and Dalton Pearson each scored two runs as the Mammoths collected eight hits on the night.

On the mound, Mammoths starter Reilly Shafer was dominant, allowing just one run on three hits over six innings while striking out two. The Mammoths bullpen combined for three scoreless innings and did not allow a hit after the sixth.

For the Hoppers, starter Jacob Mead battled through six innings, striking out four while allowing five runs (four earned). Alek Elges worked the final two innings and struck out three.

The Mammoths improved their position in the standings with the win, while the Hoppers were limited to three hits and left few scoring opportunities throughout the contest.
