Jackals Bats Too Much, Miners Drop Series

Miners drop series to Jackals

Paterson, NJ: In what felt like a do or die series heading into the final home stretch of the season, the Miners have dropped the first three games of the four game set to the New Jersey Jackals. They fall 9-2 in game three.

Christian Colmery got the start against an electric Jackals batting order. Alvaro Gonzalez launched his 13th homer of the season in the second inning, sending a ball deep into right field and past the wall to give the Jackals the early 1-0 advantage.

The homers would keep on coming in the fourth inning as Gustavo Sosa went yard to center field to double the lead, which was swiftly followed by a two run blast by the reliable powerhitter Issac Bellony to make it 4-0. Colmery would last five innings with seven hits and five runs, all of which off of home runs.

On the other side of the coin, the Miners bats struggled against Connor Maryinak for five innings, but would gain some momentum once he was replaced by Jorge Benitez. Edwin Mateo singled to left and then Maciel made it count, launching the fourth home run of the game to left field to give the Miners a lifeline in the sixth.

But the wheels would fall off in the bottom of the inning. Jackson Balzan came on and put himself in an early hole with runners on first and second. David Glancy would bring Aneudis Mordan to home plate with an RBI single to restore the four run lead, then would proceed to steal home once he reached third base. Martin Figueroa would bust it open with a two run single to left field, making it 9-2 and putting the game beyond reach for the Miners.

The Miners have the away finale in Paterson for game three before returning home, where they will have a six-game home stand to conclude the season.
