The Ottawa Titans Baseball Club announced today that the team has signed right-handed pitcher Jose Taveras for the 2022 Frontier League season. Taveras, 28, spent the 2021 season with the American Association’s Kansas City Monarchs, going 1-1 with a 5.20 ERA in eight appearances. The 6-foot-4-inch righty tossed 27.2 innings, striking out 19. Signed out of his native Dominican Republic in 2013, Taveras reached triple-A in the Philadelphia Phillies organization between 2013-2019. The 28-year-old has pitched to a 37-26 record with a 2.96 ERA in 105 career appearances at the minor league level. Born and raised in Santo Domingo, Tavares will enter his eighth season of professional baseball. In 2014, Tavares was named the Dominican Summer League’s Pitcher of the Year, as he went 8-4 with a minuscule 1.05 ERA in 15 appearances.
