Normal’s Chirino and Lake Erie’s Romero Take Home Weekly Awards

Normal CornBelters Santiago Chirino and Lake Erie’s Alex Romero were named Frontier League Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively as chosen by Pointstreak, the official statistical provider of the Frontier League and the Independent Professional Baseball Federation. Santiago Chirino has spent his entire Frontier League career as part of the Normal CornBelters, he earned his player of the week honors by posting a .519 average while driving in 10. Chirino has also hit safely in all six games while collecting four doubles and one homerun. The Frontier League all-time hits leader is batting .327 over his career while collecting 106 doubles and 19 homeruns and driving in 254. The Venezuelan native and four-time All-Star has also collected 707 hits during his career. Alex Romero who is in his first season with the Lake Erie Crushers and earned his honor this week by going 2-0 with one complete game. Romero started two games and pitched 15 innings while striking out 21 batters faced and not allowing a run.
