Lake Erie Uses Three Run Seventh To Top So. Illinois

AVON, Ohio — The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy Health, scored a trio of runs in the seventh inning of Sunday afternoon’s game at Sprenger Healthcare Stadium to pull away from the Southern Illinois Miners, as they took the rubber match with a 6-4 victory. The victory for the Crushers (33-27) marks their first series victory at home since they took two of three games from River City back on June 17, while the loss for the Miners (26-30) was their sixth in their last seven games. The Crushers did all of their damage in two innings, scoring three runs in the fifth, and repeated that feat in the seventh inning. Southern Illinois fired the first shot in the top of the second. Max Dutto tripled to right center field, and the relay throw to third hit Dutto’s helmet, bounced into the crowd, resulting in an errant throw which plated the first run of the game. Lake Erie took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three times on only two hits. Nick Roark drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly, which plated Dustin Williams.
