Lake Erie Tops Windy City at Home

AVON, Ohio — The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy Health, won their third straight home game on Friday evening at Sprenger Healthcare Stadium, as they came away with a 5-3 victory over the Windy City Thunderbolts to take the series opener. The victory for the Crushers (36-28) was their fifth in their last six games overall, while the loss for the Thunderbolts (25-39) was only their second in their last seven games on the road. Windy City used the long ball to take a 1-0 advantage, as Blair Beck blasted the first pitch his saw in the bottom of the second inning over the wall in center field. The homer was his seventh of the season. Lake Erie responded with a pair of runs on the bottom of the second to take the lead. The Crushers had the bases loaded after walks issued to Doug Trimble and Zach Racusin sandwiched a double from Dalton Wheat. Bryan DeLaRosa then hit into a 4-6-3 double play which scored Trimble to tie the game.
