NORMAL, Ill. — The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, sent 14 men to the plate in the second inning and scored eight times to open up their series against the Normal CornBelters (11-15) on Tuesday night. Behind six scoreless innings from Sean Renzi (4-1), Lake Erie rolled to a 12-2 win. Lake Erie (16-12) jumped all over CornBelters starter Jacinto Garcia (2-1) in the second inning. Aaron Hill led off with a triple and later scored along with Cameron Newell on a two-run single by Kevin Lachance. Kewby Meyer followed with an RBI single which scored Dane Hutcheon. A wild pitch scored the fourth run and a single from Cody Lenahan made it 6-0 Crushers. Garcia only lasted 1.2 innings and he surrendered seven runs on four hits while issuing five walks. By the time the second inning was over, the Crushers had an 8-0 lead. They added a run in the fourth and two in the fifth when Sean Hurley blasted his fourth home run of the year.
