SAUGET, Ill. – The Gateway Grizzlies beat the Washington Wild Things in the series finale behind strong pitching and clutch hitting on Sunday night at GCS Credit Union Ballpark. FINAL SCORE: Gateway 6, Washington 2. Gateway starter Alec Kisena set the tone early, striking out four of the first seven batters he faced. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning. After Gateway’s first two batters reached base, Blake Brown launched his 12th home run of the season over the left field wall to give the Grizzlies a 3-0 lead. Brian Lees followed suit a few batters later with a solo home run over the right field wall to extend the lead to four. Kisena allowed a leadoff home run to Washington first baseman Kane Sweeney in the fourth, but settled back in after that. Gateway added two more insurance runs in the home half of the seventh inning. Brown and Lees both picked up another RBI each. The Grizzlies led 6-2 heading into the eighth. Kisena earned his first victory of the 2017 season.
