The Lake Erie Crushers presented by Mercy, announced Thursday that the Chicago Cubs have purchased the contract of Closer Dalton Geekie. The former Atlanta Braves draft pick will report to Cubs extended Spring Training in Arizona, before being assigned to a club in the Chicago farm system. “Dalton Geekie is an extremely talented young man with a ton of potential”, stated Crushers Manager Cam Roth. “We appreciate the time he spent with our organization and wish him nothing but the best of success in the Cubs system.” Geekie signed with the Crushers in March and pitched in two games during the 2018 season. He registered saves in both of the games in which he appeared without allowing a base hit and striking out three hitters.  The Georgie resident is the first Frontier League player signed by a Major League Baseball organization during the 2018 season.  2017 saw 27 different players sign with MLB clubs during the season plus an additional five after the season ended. The Lake Erie Crushers are located in Avon, Ohio and play in the Frontier League of independent professional baseball (www.frontierleague.com).
