Big Innings Lead Traverse City Over Lake Erie

AVON, OH- The Traverse City Beach Bums(34-41) used two five-run innings to defeat the Lake Erie Crushers(40-36) in Friday’s series opener by a final score of 12-6.   With one out in the first, the Beach Bums were able to take an early lead. Isaac Benard smashed a liner off the pitcher for an infield hit and moved to third on a Will Kengor double. Steve Lohr dribbled a grounder towards third, scoring Benard.   In the second, Traverse City sent eight men to the plate, scoring five runs. Alec Olund started the offense with a one out double. Two batters later, Benard doubled in Olund to double the lead. After Will Kengor walked and Steve Lohr was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Alexis Rivera cranked a grand slam over the right field wall, his fifth homer of the season, for a 6-0 Bums lead.   Lake Erie responded with a big inning of their own in the bottom of the frame, sending nine men to the plate. Dalton Wheat hit an RBI single, Mason Brown drove in two with a single, and so did Dane Hutcheon, making it a 6-5 game.   The Beach Bums put…
