TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums(40-50) used a big first inning to power past the Schaumburg Boomers(38-54), for a 7-1 win on Wednesday night. Marco Derkes led off the bottom of the first with an infield single, then moved to second when Jeff DeBlieux was hit by a pitch. A Jose Vargas single loaded the bases then, two batters later, Steven Patterson hit a double to right, driving in Derkes and DeBlieux, and the Bums were off and running. Elijah Trail followed with an RBI single to left, scoring Vargas, then Kendall Patrick hit an RBI double to score Patterson, and Traverse City led 4-0. The Beach Bums continued to add on to their lead, starting in the fourth inning. Christian Santisteban led off with an infield single then moved to second on a wild pitch. Patrick grounded out to move Santisteban to third and then scored on a Ryan Bottger sacrifice fly. In the fifth, DeBlieux reached on an error and got to second on another wild pitch.
