Southern Illinois brings back reigning Pitcher of the Year, inks outfielder to add to roster The Southern Illinois Miners are pleased to announce the return of 2015 Frontier League Pitcher of the Year Adam Lopez to their roster for the upcoming 2016 season as well as the signing of outfielder Nolan Earley, bolstering their roster as spring training nears. Lopez, who comes back to the Miners after being signed by the San Diego Padres earlier in the offseason but released at the end of spring training, is coming off of one of the best years by any Miners pitcher in team history in 2015. The 6’5” right-hander went 10-0 in 16 starts with a 1.86 ERA, striking out 103 batters and walking only 35 while surrendering just 65 hits in 96 2/3 innings. He was named the Brian Tollberg Award as the Frontier League’s Pitcher of the Year, the fourth overall and second in a row from Southern Illinois, finishing tops among all active qualifying pitchers in the circuit in ERA and fifth in strikeouts.
