The 2018 Frontier League Draft began when Michael Knighton was taken with the 1st overall pick by the Traverse City Beach Bums, the first of 32 players chosen to begin or continue their professional baseball careers. Knighton spent the past four seasons in the Chicago Cubs organization after being taken in the 17th round of the 2014 MLB draft.  Traverse City completed a trade with the Gateway Grizzlies to acquire the first overall pick just prior to the draft beginning. When asked about the pick, Traverse City Beach Bums manager Dan Rohn said “I liked the young man we signed; the ball came out of his hand good so we went out there and got a little aggressive moving up from the 14th pick to the first in order to get Michael.” “I’m extremely blessed,” commented Knighton.  “I’m going to take all of the knowledge I soaked up over the years involved with the Chicago Cubs and be able to put it with Traverse City and hopefully contribute to the team, make the team, and hopefully use that to win a championship.” The complete list of drafted players is: 2018 Frontier League Draft Results – April 24, 2018 Pick Team…
