2017 CWL SEASON OPENS THURSDAY, JANUARY 19

The California Winter League enters its third season as the Official Winter League of the Frontier League, with play beginning next week. As part of their agreement, the California Winter League uses Frontier League managers and coaches as their instructors.  For the 2017 season, Windy City field manager Ron Biga will serve as the CWL’s Pitching Coordinator and Traverse City field manager is the Fielding Coordinator.  Florence field manager Dennis Pelfrey and Lake Erie field manager Cam Roth will manage teams in the CWL, along with Evansville assistant coach Boots Day, Normal pitching coach Andrew Kottner, Schaumburg hitting coach Patrick O’Sullivan, and Southern Illinois scouting coordinator Casey Dill.  Biga is spending his fourth season in the CWL, with O’Sullivan,  Rohn, and Roth participating for the third time, and Day, Dill, and Pelfrey for the second time.  Kottner will make his CWL debut this year.  Frontier League deputy commissioner Steve Tahsler is also on-site for the third year to oversee the CWL’s relationship with the Frontier League. In the first two seasons of the California Winter League’s agreement with the Frontier League, 97 CWL players have signed contracts to play in the Frontier League, including 2015 Home Run Derby champion Reggie Lawson…
