CLEBURNE, Tex. — For the second consecutive night, the Chicago Dogs lit up the La Moderna Field scoreboard with season-highs in runs and hits, thrashing the Cleburne Railroader, 13-5, on Wednesday night.
Brennan Metzger opened the Chicago scoring just five pitches into the game, blasting a moonshot solo home run to left to make it 1-0.
The Dogs added three runs in the third inning and four runs in the sixth to keep the hurt on Michael Mariot, the Cleburne starter, a former MLB arm.
Josh Altmann continued his scorching start to 2023 with two doubles and a single and two RBI, his 17th and 18th driven in this year. Metzger also added an RBI bunt single and a late RBI double to cap his dominant night.
Cody Bohanek, Jesus Lujano and Donivan Williams all tallied two hits for the Dogs, and Matt Bottcher drove in two runs.
Jake Dahlberg earned his second win, allowing just two unearned runs across 5.1 innings, tossing 93 pitches.
The victory gives the Dogs a 2-0 series lead and six wins in their last seven games. Chicago, at 8-3, has a one-game lead on second-place Gary in the East Division.
