The Chicago Dogs defeated the Lake Country DockHounds, 14-13, in dramatic fashion at Impact Field on Saturday.
The DockHounds got on the board quickly with a three-run home run in the top of the first inning. They went on to add two more runs in the top of the second to make the score 5-0. The offensive attack from Lake Country didn’t stop there, as a sacrifice fly drove home another run in the top of the third.
The Dogs answered in the bottom of the third inning. Daniel Harris got Chicago on the board with a solo home run. He was followed by Gio DiGiacomo, who hit a two-run home run. Jacob Maiben completed Chicago’s five-run third inning with a two-run shot of his own to make the score 6-5.
The DockHounds were not finished, however, as Joshua Mears extended their lead to four on a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning. Maiben answered back again in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single that drove home DiGiacomo.
Lake Country extended their lead once again in the top of the fifth after the Dogs allowed three runs to score on walks, making the score 12-5. Jack Blomgren extended the lead even further with a solo home run in the top of the sixth. The Dogs continued their comeback effort in the bottom of the sixth as Jaxx Groshans cut the lead to four on a three-run home run. DiGiacomo followed that up with an RBI fielder’s choice that scored Harris. Ethan Wilder went on to drive DiGiacomo home on an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 13-11. Groshans followed that up with an RBI double to cut the lead to one. After Wilder was hit in the head by a Jacob DeLabio fastball to load the bases, Maiben hit a two-run single that drove home Harris and Jaylyn Williams to give Chicago a one-run lead in the bottom of the eighth, completing a seven-run comeback.
Cade Hermann earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning to give Chicago their second victory of the series.
The Dogs will look to complete the sweep on Sunday, June 21. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m., weather permitting.
