The Chicago Dogs dropped the first game of their series against the Kane County Cougars on Friday evening at Northwestern Medicine Field.
This matchup featured two of the best starting pitchers in the American Association. Chicago’s Steven Lacey went head-to-head with Kane County’s All-Star, Konnor Ash. The pitching duel lived up to expectations, as Ash went on to strike out 12 Dogs in an eight-inning shutout performance. Lacey pitched six quality innings of one-run baseball.
The Cougars got on the board first in the bottom of the fifth inning when Matt Bottcher drove in Zane Spinn with an RBI single. Bottcher’s RBI single proved to be the only run of the game. Chicago had just two hits, a single by Cooper Weiss in the top of the first inning and a single by Derek Maiben in the sixth. Kane County went on to win 1-0.
Chicago will look to even the series against the Cougars on Saturday, July 11. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
