Dogs Eliminated from Postseason Contention

After a promising first inning in game two in Texas on Wednesday evening, Chicago eventually lost a big lead, dropping their 60th loss of the season. Cleburne walked off the Dogs in the bottom of the tenth inning, winning 10-8, officially closing the door on any postseason possibility for Chicago.

The pitching was again up and down, with starter Austin Eaton completing four and a third innings of work, giving up four earned runs on eight hits, four walks, and four strikeouts. In immediate relief, Regi Grace Jr. and Spencer Boynton combined for two and two thirds scoreless, giving up a combined one hit. Unfortunately it was all downhill from there, as Dominic Guzman gave up three earned runs in his two innings of work, and Max Charnin did not record an out, but was hung with the loss after giving up the walkoff home run.

The offense exploded for six runs in the first inning, making it look like they had a win sealed early. A home run from Ethan Wilder followed by RBI singles from Jaxx Groshans, Jaylyn Williams, Nick Roselli, and Giovanni DiGiacomo had the lineup rolling right along. Unfortunately, Chicago did not score again until the ninth inning, when they had already allowed Cleburne to come all the way back. It was Williams again who tied the game with a single up the middle, giving Chicago another glimmer of hope. After giving up the tying run in the ninth inning, Chicago got a go-ahead single from Sam Biller in the top of the tenth inning, pushing themselves back in front once again. The offense would not get another chance to hit however, as Cleburne tied it before walking it off in the bottom half.
