‘DOGS DROP SECOND STRAIGHT FOR FIRST TIME IN 2022

KANSAS CITY, Kansas – Welington Dotel extended his hitting streak to seven with two hits and a solo homer, but the ‘Dogs dropped a second straight game for the first time this year in an 11-6 loss to the Kansas City Monarchs at Legends Field on Tuesday night.

BOX SCORE

Dotel’s solo homer capped a stretch of five unanswered runs that cut Kansas City’s deficit to one after the Monarchs led 7-1, but the Monarchs (12-6) responded with four runs in the bottom-half of the 7th and clinched the series with a second-straight five-run victory.

The Monarchs scored three in the 1st and once in the 2nd before Hunter Clanin hit his third homer of the series – a solo shot in the 3rd – to get Lincoln (11-5) on the board.

After the Monarchs scored three more times in the 3rd, Lincoln rallied for four runs – only one earned – in the 6th. Randy Norris reached on an error with one out, and Josh Altmann walked. After Dotel singled to load the bases, Eddy Martinez reached on an error and picked up an RBI. With the bases still loaded, Sherman Graves singled up the middle to make it 7-3. Garett Delano then walked and J.R. DiSarcina’s single made it 7-5.

Kyle Kinman allowed a season-high seven runs on 11 hits with one walk and four strikeouts over 3.2 innings. Jonathan Cheshire tossed 1.1 scoreless innings, while David Zoz allowed four runs in the 6th. Carter Hope and Jesse Stallings combined to pitch a scoreless final two innings.

Clanin’s homer extended his team-best 14-game on-base streak, while Delano picked up his team-leading 13th RBI. Altmann walked twice, and Randy Norris went 0-for-5 with a run scored in his return to the lineup after missing a week-and-a-half with injury.

The ‘Dogs now try and avoid being swept for the first time this year on Wednesday. First pitch in Kansas City is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and pregame coverage will begin at 6:30 on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
