Dogs Drop Heartbreaker

The Dogs lost for the 11th straight time tonight, a tough 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Sioux City Explorers.

Chicago wasted no time jumping out in front when Tyreque Reed hit his sixth homerun of the season to left center field, driving home Chance Sisco and giving the Dogs a 2-0 lead. Chicago extended the lead to 3-0 in the second inning when Derek Maiben would double home Giovanni DiGiacomo.

The score would remain 3-0 until the fourth inning when the Explorers finally got to Dogs starter Andres Diaz. A two-run double would start a fantastic evening for D’Shawn Knowles, and Dillon Tatum would follow with a two out RBI single, tying the game at three.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Explorers would take a 4-3 lead on a controversial play at the plate. With Henry George at second, Alberto Osuna would drive a single to left. Jacob Maiben fielded the ball, hit Ethan Wilder on the cutoff and Wilder threw to the plate. Jaxx Groshans would field the ball up the first base line, dive back to the plate and seemingly tag out George at home. However, Tim Montoya, the home plate umpire, would rule George safe and put Sioux City up.

The drama was not over however, as with two outs in the ninth inning and the tying run at second base, Nick Roselli hit a 3-2 changeup to the right field wall, where Knowles was waiting. He jumped and pulled back a potential go ahead two run homerun, sending the Dogs to the loss.

Diaz was outstanding for the Dogs this evening, going seven strong innings, allowing three earned runs, striking out seven.

Chicago will look to avoid the sweep and snap their skid tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for 4pm at Lewis and Clark Park in Sioux City, IA. All Chicago Dogs games can be livestreamed for free on aabaseball.tv.
