MINERS’ SKIPPER JONES NAMED MANAGER OF THE YEAR

Durham, N.C. — Piloting his club to the league’s best record and setting a number of new records, Sussex County Miners manager Bobby Jones was named the league’s Manager of the Year on Saturday in a poll of league managers and media members. Going into Saturday’s games, Sussex County is 62-36, the best record in club history and a 17.5-game improvement over the club’s 45-54 mark in 2017. The Miners have been especially tough at home this season, registering a 41-11 mark at Skylands Park, a league record for home victories and winning percentage, and setting the league record with 16 consecutive home victories between July 8 and August 15. The team also had a 15-game home win streak between June 8 and July 4. Sussex County gave opponents fits on the basepaths this season, obliterating the prior league record of 163 stolen bases with 233 thefts of their own and leading the Can-Am with 541 runs scored this year.
