MINERS DEFEAT BOULDERS TO COMPLETE THREE-GAME SWEEP

JUNE 28 LEAGUE RECAP Sussex County 4, Rockland 1 – Box Score Sussex County completed the three-game sweep of Rockland as they downed the Boulders by the score of 4-1. The Miners took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as DH Nick Zaharion singled home 3B Martin Figueroa and RF Rubi Silva. Sussex County would then add a run in the sixth on a Silva single and another one in the eighth on an error by Rockland 2B Aaron Wilson. The Boulders tallied their lone run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by CF Mike Montville. Silva had a perfect 4-for-4 night at the plate with a run scored and an RBI while Zaharion drove in a pair of runs and went 1-for-4. Miners starter Cory Jones threw six shutout innings in picking up the victory. Jones gave up three hits and three walks to go along with seven strikeouts in a 104-pitch performance. The righty is now 5-1 on the season. Trois-Rivieres 6, Ottawa 3 – Box Score Trois-Rivieres scored four runs in the fourth inning to rally from an early deficit and beat Ottawa by a 6-3 final.
