DEFENDING CHAMPION CAPITALES SHUTOUT JACKALS IN SEASON OPENER

Quebec 3, New Jersey 0 – Box The defending champion Quebec Capitales opened up the 2018 season in grand style as they defeated the New Jersey Jackals by a 3-0 score. Quebec collected their first run in the fifth inning as 3B Josh Vitters scored on an RBI groundout by C Adam Ehrlich. The Capitales added their other two runs in the eighth as SS Yordan Manduley came home on an error by New Jersey LF Connor Hofmann and LF James McOwen doubled in CF Kalian Sams. McOwen went 2-for-4 on the night with an RBI while Sams and Vitters each added a hit and a run scored in three at-bats. Quebec starting pitcher Karl Gelinas was terrific tonight en route to his first victory. Gelinas tossed seven shutout innings allowing only four hits while striking out five batters. Sussex County 10, Rockland 3 – Box Sussex County scored eight runs over the final three innings to roll past Rockland by a 10-3 final.
