VERNIA WINS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

MOORHEAD, MN– The American Association announced Wednesday that Sioux City Explorers’ RHP Justin Vernia has been named Rookie of the Year. Vernia (12-2) led the American Association in wins during the 2018 season while posting the sixth lowest ERA (3.32). The righty dominated all through June, winning Pitcher of the Month. Vernia also won pitcher of the week for the week ending August 5. The righty joined the Explorers in 2017 after going undrafted out of Gonzaga. In six starts with Sioux City in 2017, Vernia went 3-2 with a 6.11 ERA.
