Unicorns Rally Late to Top Hoppers

UTICA, Mich. – In the first game of a Saturday doubleheader at Jimmy John’s Field, the Utica Unicorns (9-7) used a sixth-inning surge to claim a 6–3 win over the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (10-6).

Utica jumped ahead early with two runs in the first, but the Hoppers responded with three runs across the second and third innings to take a 3–2 lead. That score held until the sixth, when the Unicorns capitalized on three walks, a hit-by-pitch, and timely hitting to plate four runs and retake control of the game.

Notable Performances:

  • Jared Weber (UU): powered the offense with a 2-RBI single in the sixth to give the Unicorns the lead.
  • Ryan Enos (UU): reached base twice and doubled in the first.
  • Thomas Collins (UU): added an RBI single as part of the sixth-inning comeback.
  • Matt Colucci (UU): earned the win with two dominant innings of relief, allowing no hits and striking out three.
  • Jorge Gonzalez and Chase Maifield (EDH): each doubled, with Maifield driving in one of the three runs.
