Rodriguez’s Big Fly, Beavers’ Bullpen Dominate in 8–1 Win Over Hoppers

Utica, Mich. – Chase Rodriguez launched a three-run home run and the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (4-2) bullpen combined for four scoreless innings as the Beavers cruised to an 8–1 win over the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (3-4) Friday night at Jimmy John’s Field.

Rodriguez delivered the game’s biggest blow in the top of the third, sending a towering shot over the left-field wall to score Bubba Thompson and Vasili Kaloudis. The blast gave the Beavers a 3–1 lead, and they never looked back.

Rodriguez finished the game 1-for-3 with three RBIs and two walks, pacing a Beavers offense that capitalized on Hoppers miscues and wild pitching. The Beavers added insurance runs in the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings, including an RBI single from Nate Mensik and a two-run rally aided by a Hoppers error.

On the mound, starter Sidney Ferry (1–0) earned the win, limiting the Hoppers to one run on four hits over five innings. He struck out four and walked two. The bullpen quartet of Julian Pichardo, Kyle Fitzgerald, Spencer Smith, and Noah Miller combined for four shutout innings, with Miller striking out the side in the ninth to seal it.

The Hoppers (3–4) managed just one run in the second on a sacrifice fly from catcher Jayson Willers, scoring Andrew Bergeron, who had singled and stole two bases.

The Beavers defense turned three double plays and played error-free baseball over the final five innings to help close out the win.
