UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (4-7) clawed back from an early three-run deficit to defeat the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (6-6), 5-3 on Thursday night at Jimmy John’s Field.
After the Beavers jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning—highlighted by an RBI single from Ray Hilbrich and a triple from Chase Rodriguez—the Mammoths responded with a three-run homer off the bat of Hank Dodson in the fourth inning to even the score.
Dante Morton broke the tie in the sixth with a solo home run, and an insurance run in the ninth sealed the Mammoths’ comeback victory.
The Mammoths’ bullpen was lights out, with Johnny Czeslawski and Conor Gausselin combining for four shutout innings. Gausselin earned the save, while Jacob Almon picked up his first win of the season after settling in following a rocky first frame.
