Mammoths Beat Beavers 5–4 in Tight Game One Battle

UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (18-18) held off a late push from the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (12-20) to secure a 5–4 victory in Game One at Jimmy John’s Field on Saturday night.

The Mammoths struck first in the opening inning when Sebastian Trinidad drew a walk, stole two bases, and came home on Dante Morton’s RBI groundout. They added single runs in each of the next four innings, capitalizing on timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to keep pressure on the Beavers.

The Beavers answered back in the second inning when Ben Wilcoxson delivered a two-run single to tie the game. Ryan Maka’s solo home run in the third kept Birmingham Bloomfield within striking distance, but the Mammoths’ balanced offense continued to manufacture runs, including an RBI single from Ryne Guida in the fifth that proved to be the game-winner.

On the mound, Guillermo Garcia Jr. (4-0) earned the win, allowing five hits and three earned runs over five innings with seven strikeouts. David Craig picked up his first save, tossing a scoreless sixth inning to shut the door.

The Beavers threatened in the final frames, aided by a clutch RBI single from Matt Piotrowski in the fifth, but ultimately left the tying run stranded.
