ROBINSON HEADED FOR CARDS
Miners shortstop Errol Robinson has been signed by the St. Louis Cardinals, and he’ll be reporting to one of that organization’s minor-league teams directly from his appearance at last night’s Frontier League All-Star game.
The 27-year-old, who’s in his first year with Sussex County, was batting .312 with 43 hits in 43 games for the Miners. His 22 stolen bases rank No. 4 in the league – a key contributor to the team leading the league in steals at a record-setting pace.
A native of Boyds, MD, Robinson was a standout at the University of Mississippi before he was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the sixth round in 2016.
He reached the Triple-A level with the Dodgers, then moved on to the Cincinnati Reds, where he also played Triple-A ball in 2021.
The Miners currently lead the league with 154 stolen bases, followed by Windy City with 107. At their current pace, Sussex would break the league record of 204 set last year by Windy City.
By Carl Barbati, former sports editor of the New Jersey Herald, Daily Record and The Daily Trentonian.
