Saltdogs Snap Skid and Even Series with Milkmen

Lincoln, Nebraska- Jacob Hughes threw his sixth quality start of the season, while Tanner O’Tremba homered, and the Lincoln Saltdogs defeated the Milwaukee Milkmen 3-1, Wednesday night, at Haymarket Park.  Cam Phelts, Jairo Pomares, and Jacob Morrow all recorded two hits for Lincoln, in the victory, snapping their four-game losing streak.

Lincoln (41-54) scored three runs, off seven hits, committed one error, and left six runners on base.  Milwaukee (57-38) had one run, with four hits, no errors, and stranded eleven base runners.  Wednesday night’s game lasted two hours and forty-four minutes, and was played in front of 2,146 fans.

The Saltdogs grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first inning.  Facing Milwaukee starter Christian Young, Cam Phelts led off the inning with a single, then stole second base.  The swipe was Phelts’ fiftieth stolen base of the year, increasing his single-season franchise record.  Two batters later, Jairo Pomares doubled, scoring Phelts, to make it 1-0.

Milwaukee tied the score in the top of the sixth.  Facing Lincoln starter Jacob Hughes, Andy Blake drew a one-out walk.  Then, Alec Olund singled, for the Milkmen’s first hit of the game.  Two batters later, Carlos Linarez singled, scroing Blake, to make the score 1-1.

Lincoln broke open the tie game in the bottom of the seventh.  Facing reliever Brady Puckett, Tanner O’Tremba hit a solo home run to left field.  His eleventh home run of the season made it a 2-1 Lincoln lead.  Jacob Morrow doubled, then was picked off second base.  Two batters later, Paul Myro IV struck out swinging, however, reached first on a passed ball.  Myro stole second.  Then, Cam Phelts singled to left, scoring Myro, to make it a 3-1 Lincoln lead, which would turn out to be the final score.

Saltdogs starting pitcher Jacob Hughes threw 6.0 innings, giving up one run, off two hits, struck out seven and walked five.  Tyler Stasiowski (3-3) earned the win, pitching 1.0 inning, struck out two and walked one.  Gabriel Jaramillo worked 1.0 inning, struck out two and walked one.  Zac McCleve earned his ninth save of the season, throwing 1.0 inning, yielding two hits and walked one.

Milkmen starter Christian Young pitched 5.1 innings, giving up one run, off four hits, struck out eight and walked one.  Justin Kelly pitched 0.2 innings and struck out one.  Brady Puckett (1-2) took the loss, throwing 1.0 inning, giving up two runs, off three hits and struck out one.  Micky Scheetz pitched 1.0 inning, struck out two and walked one.

Offensively for Lincoln, Cam Phelts and Jairo Pomares were both 2-for-4 with an RBI, each.  Tanner O’Tremba went 1-for-3 with a solo home run.  Jacob Morrow was 2-for-3.

For Milwaukee, Carlos Linarez was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

The final game of the series is Thursday night.  The winner of the game will claim the season series between the two teams.  In addition, it is Lincoln’s final home game of the year.  RHP Graham Edwards (2-10, 8.00 ERA) will pitch for Lincoln.  LHP Jhordany Mezquita (12-0, 2.68 ERA) will be on the mound for Milwaukee.  The first pitch will be 6:35 p.m.  The game will be broadcast on KFOR 101.5 FM/1240 AM and on: www.aabaseball.tv.
