Former Railroader Jaxx Groshans gave Chicago everything he could, but as we know by now, it takes a complete team effort to win baseball games at this level, and for the sixth straight night in Cleburne the Dogs could not manage to put one together. The Railroaders sweep the Dogs in six games, taking Sunday’s game by a final of 10-6, officially punching their playoff ticket.
Dominic Guzman had the only positive pitching performance of the night, as he shoved two scoreless innings to finish things off for the Dogs staff. In those two innings he gave up two hits, walked none, and struck out five, easily his most dominant performance of the season. Regi Grace gave up seven earned runs in three and a third innings of work, and Cade Herrmann gave up three earned runs in his two and two thirds.
Jaxx Groshans absolutely took over offensively, swatting two home runs against his former team, driving in five of the Dogs six runs. The other run was knocked in by Jacob Maiben in the top of the second inning, and brought the Dogs within a run at the time. Groshan’s home runs were his twenty-second and twenty-third of the year, and brought him up to seventy-five RBI on the season. He has easily put together a top five offensive season in Dogs history, and remains one of the sole bright spots in what has been a tough season for Chicago.
