Napleton ties club record with 32nd homer

YORK, Pa. – High Point’s Luke Napleton tied the franchise record with his 32^nd home run of the season but the York Revolution unleashed an 11-hit attack and defeated the Rockers 11-6 on Sunday afternoon at WellSpan Park.

The Rockers are now 19-26 in the second half and 48-60 for the season. York stands at 32-13 and 67-41.

The Rockers took a 3-0 lead in the third inning on consecutive singles by D.J. Burt and Quincy Nieporte leading to Napleton’s three-run homer.

Napleton tied the mark for home runs in a season by a Rocker with Ben Aklinski who had 32 homers last year. Zander Wiel also hit 32 homers in 2022. Napleton now leads the Atlantic League in home runs, one ahead of Charleston’s Carlos De La Cruz who has 31.

York responded in the bottom of the third with eight runs off High Point starter Alex Barker (L, 0-1) who was signed earlier in the day. Shed Long, Jr. and Tomo Otosaka each provided a two-run single which was aided by four walks from Barker.

High Point got one run back in the fourth on an RBI single from Quincy Nieporte. Ryan McCarthyt drove in a single run in the seventh and Nieporte added an RBI ground out in the ninth.

Barker allowed seven hits and eight runs while walking four and striking out three in his five innings of work. York reliever Jordan Geber (W, 1-0) earned his first win of the year with 1.2 innings of hitless relief.

The Rockers will have an off-day on Monday before starting a six-game home stand with the South Division leading Lexington Legends on Tuesday. Game time is set for 6:35 p.m. at Truist Point.
