Eastside Powers Past Beavers, 11-1

UTICA, Mich. – The Eastside Diamond Hoppers (5-14) broke open a close game with a late offensive surge Friday night, defeating the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (10-7), 11-1, at UWM Field. Eastside scored in six different innings and piled up 11 hits while its pitching staff limited the Beavers to just two hits all night.

The Hoppers struck first with two runs in the opening inning before the Beavers answered in the second when David Coppedge launched a solo home run to left field, cutting the deficit to 2-1. It would be Birmingham’s only run of the game.

Eastside gradually pulled away, scoring once in the third, two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, then putting the game out of reach with a three-run eighth and another run in the ninth. Second baseman Jarrett Chapman led the offensive charge with a home run and three RBIs, while David Kedrow finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Justin Johnson added two hits and two runs scored, and Josh Burke drove in two runs as part of the balanced attack.

On the mound, Deion Walker earned the victory for Eastside, allowing just one run on one hit over seven strong innings while striking out four. Mulholland and Baxt combined to finish the final two innings, holding the Beavers to one additional hit.
