UTICA, Mich. – The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (9-6) bounced back in Game Two of Saturday’s doubleheader, using a five-run fifth inning and a balanced offensive attack to defeat the Utica Unicorns (9-8), 9-6, and earn a split of the twin bill. g.
The Beavers wasted little time getting on the board, scoring in the opening inning before adding two more runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead. The Unicorns stayed within striking distance thanks to a solo home run from Ryan Enos in the first inning, but the Beavers continued to pressure Unicorns pitching throughout the night.
After the Unicorns cut into the deficit, the Beavers delivered the game’s decisive blow in the fifth inning. Capitalizing on walks and timely hitting, they plated five runs to extend their lead and seize control of the contest.
Derek Gellos provided one of the biggest moments of the game with a home run and finished with two RBIs and two runs scored. David Coppedge collected two hits and drove in two runs, while Amari Bartee added two hits and two RBIs of his own. Matt Piotrowski and Jeffrey Reseigh each recorded two-hit performances as the Beavers racked up 10 hits and drew eight walks.
The Unicorns fought back with the long ball, receiving home runs from Enos, Cecil Lofton, and Braxton Meguiar. Lofton’s three-run homer highlighted a late push, while Meguiar’s two-run blast helped keep the game within reach.
Ethan Alexander earned the win for the Beavers after allowing three runs over 4.2 innings. Josh Nielsen and Ben Crumpton combined to close out the victory despite a late Unicorns rally.
The Beavers finished with 10 hits and nine runs, while the Unicorns scored six runs on five hits. With the win, the Beavers salvaged a split of the doubleheader and showcased an offense that produced contributions throughout the lineup.
