UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (9-2) capped off a dominant Saturday by completing a doubleheader sweep of the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (1-10) with an 11-5 victory in game two at UWM Field. Powered by a 14-hit offensive outburst, the Mammoths scored in five of six innings and pulled away late to secure the win.
After taking an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Mammoths broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning and added five more runs over the final two frames. The offense produced 11 runs on 14 hits while drawing six walks.
Dante Morton led the attack with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, driving in two runs and scoring once. Matt McGann and Brendan Hillis each launched home runs and collected two RBIs, while Dalton Pearson finished with two hits and two RBIs. Chase Jans scored twice and Tommy Stevenson added an RBI as the Mammoths lineup delivered contributions from top to bottom.
The Hoppers battled back early after trailing 2-0, scoring three runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth to briefly take a 5-2 lead. Shane Hewlette provided the biggest swing of the game for the Hoppers with a two-run homer, while Josh Burke added an RBI double and Bailey Martin drove in a run.
On the mound, Daniel Barcena earned the win despite allowing five runs over 3.2 innings. The Mammoths bullpen took over from there and shut the door. Gavin Brasosky tossed 1.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts, and Conor Gausselin struck out all three batters he faced in a perfect sixth inning to finish the game.
The victory completed a sweep of the doubleheader for the Mammoths, who combined for 15 runs and 26 hits across the two games while continuing their strong start to the season.
