UTICA, Mich. – The Utica Unicorns (4-1) jumped out early and never looked back, defeating the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (0-5), 6-1, on Friday night at UWM Field.
The offense came alive in the opening inning as the Unicorns plated four runs, highlighted by a two-run homer from Zayd Brannigan. Thomas Collins and Joey Winters each collected three-hit nights, while Jason Givens added a double and RBI in the win.
On the mound, the Unicorns pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts while limiting the Hoppers to just one run on seven hits. Starter Jacob Newman worked 4.1 innings before Dillon Fischer earned the win in relief with 3.2 strong innings and six strikeouts.
For the Hoppers, Brendan Seman and Josh Burke each recorded two hits, while Yan Fernandez drove in the team’s lone run.
The Unicorns improve with another strong all-around performance as the team combined timely hitting with dominant pitching to secure the victory.
