JOLIET, IL – The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, opened their final series of the season with a 2-1 victory over the Joliet Slammers on Friday night. The Crushers (44-50) ended a three game losing streak to the Slammers (41-53). The Crushers grabbed the lead in the first. L.J. Kalawaia led off the game with a double down the right field line, and a walk to Jordan Dean put men on first and second.  After Sean Hurley bounced into a fielder’s choice at second to leave runners on the corners, Conner Simonetti singled to right to bring in Kalawaia for a 1-0 lead. Lake Erie doubled their lead in the seventh. Bryan De La Rosa led off with a single, and Tyler Urps bunted him to second. After a walk to Kalawaia, Dean singled to load the bases, and fielder’s choice hit to short by Hurley brought in De La Rosa to extend the Crushers’ lead to 2-0. Joliet finally jumped onto the scoreboard in the eighth. Ridge Hoopii-Haslam and Melvin Rodriguez connected for back-to-back doubles, to cut the Crushers’ lead in half, but Justin Sinibaldi came back with a pair of strikeouts to strand the tying run at…
