VETERAN SCHULTZ INKS EXTENSION WITH OTTERS

The Evansville Otters have signed veteran John Schultz to a contract extension. Schultz, an outfielder and West Lawn, Pa. native, has been one of the Otters’ most productive players since coming to Evansville in 2013. “John has been invaluable to the success of the Otters,” Otters manager Andy McCauley said. “The stability he has brought on and off the field, as well as the commitment to returning to Evansville, has been a big part of our winning culture.” After playing collegiately at the University of Pittsburgh, Schultz was drafted in the 34th round of the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft by the Florida Marlins. He spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons with the Marlins before signing with Evansville. In four seasons with the Otters, Schultz has batted .286 with 364 hits and 147 RBIs. He also has 71 doubles, 17 triples and 31 home runs. “John’s hitting skills matched with his ability to score and drive in runs has made him a formidable player in the league,” McCauley said. “He’s been extremely successful in clutch situations.” Schultz was a Frontier League All-Star in 2013 and 2015 and has also been instrumental in leading the Otters to the playoffs twice in the…
