TRAVERSE CITY, MI – In two contrasting ballgames, the Traverse City Beach Bums(5-8) took both games of a doubleheader against the Lake Crushers(8-4), by scores of 5-1 and 3-2. The Beach Bums came out quick in game one as Ryan Bottger led off with a walk. Will Kengor followed with a single to right. After Jose Vargas reached on a fielder’s choice, Brandon Thomasson hit a hard line drive to the third baseman Juan Avila. Avila tried to throw out Vargas at first for a double play but the throw was high and that allowed Bottger to score the game’s first run. After a scoreless second, Jeff DeBlieux led off the third with a double to right. Bottger followed with his own double down the left field line, scoring DeBlieux and doubling the Bums’ advantage. Kengor stepped up next and drove a single into right, bringing home Bottger. After a Vargas walk, Brandon Thomasson reached on a fielder’s choice, moving Kengor to third. While Steven Patterson was at the plate, Todd Kibby hurled a wild pitch that got away from Jose Barraza, scoring Kengor. On the plate, Barraza tossed the ball home to Kibby, who was covering but it rolled…
