In case you ever wondered what challenges a new independent baseball team faces when it comes to various political issues at the local level, here is an interesting insight into the Pecos League’s efforts to get approval for beer sales at a stadium controlled by the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico:

It is always interesting to see which local civic leaders attempt to exert power whenever a new team attempts to come to a new market.  San Rafael Pacifics, the new team in the North American League, are facing local pressure about the stadium proposal and could face a possible lawsuit.  The Rockland Boulders faced a very vocal opposition to their stadium construction before the start of this past season.  The new ownership, who took over the Frontier League’s Oakland County Cruisers, faced enough opposition in Clawson Michigan that the team now is going to London, Ontario.
Feel free to leave your comments about civic leaders whenever an independent pro baseball team attempts to enter a new market.
