Santa Fe Fuego Win 2014 Pecos League Championship

The Santa Fe Fuego defeated the Alpine Cowboys to win the best-of-three 2014 Pecos League Championship.  The final score of the last game was 7-3.  Here is the box score and the recaps on the team’s website and the Pecos League website:

This is the first championship for the Fuego in their team’s history.  They have been added to the new “2014” section of the historical independent baseball league champions page (since 1993).  That page is here:

  1. Better check things out again. I see you trying to include the CanAm leader into the AA championship. But that looks doubtful. A check of the Playoffs tag on the CA site shows they are setting up for a best of seven final for the top two teams in the standings at season’s end for the first week/weekend of September. A check of the AA probably still includes a wild card to be included from the three divisions. So there’s really no postseason change in either league from the last two years at least.

And that should fit in again for next season when hopefully two teams will be added back into both leagues. If they are still an odd number again in both next year, look for an even greater interdivision schedule between them as before. As weak as Newark NJ has been, I hope they are invited back into the CanAm picture when Ottawa starts up next year. Why they cannot get an independent team back into Montreal is really puzzling to me. MLB left it, and didn’t even leave an affiliated squad behind…for which I’m glad. you would have too many early games lost for weather, and there is no way you go inside for less than a pro franchise.

Maybe chatter about baseball coming to Newfoundland or Nova Scotia will take route. That might persuade me to finally take a Canadian vacation!

  2. Psss these outside the box ideas…somewhat on to Andrew Dunn. Let’s hope he isn’t going to settle for a nine team league, unless he shortens the series to three games…like they are suppose to be. Can’t have any team going rusty for too long from not playing. Making that schedule work would be a major challenge, but all teams should eventually play each other evenly.

However, since Santa Fe seems to be doing SO well…why not simply add another team there! One that could play at home most of the time when the Fuego are not! Might be hard on the field and the grounds crew, which could also be rotated, but might draw a better following than starting again somewhere dubious.

Or make the Houston Apollos a road team, or bring back the BATS!

He is probably probing the depth of interest in Santa Rosa as well, after the one game sellout when Las Vegas stopped by. Then again, he should just have half of the Robbers home games played in Rosa, avoiding the rainouts.

If he seriously thinking about a bizarre 9 team league…then these ideas are just as viable. Is Pueblo still a dead possibility?
