Longtime independent and affiliated minor league baseball team owner, Jay Acton (who also runs the developmental New York State League), talked about the team he will operate in the Pecos League this upcoming season. He will oversee the players and operations of the new Taos Blizzard which will operate in the league’s Northern Division. Acton talked about the quality of players and that a new hitting and pitching coach will be named shortly.
The Northern Division has announced its schedule for 2013. The Pecos League’s Southern Division schedule, however, is still in question. This is due to the status of the Las Cruces Vaqueros which, along with the Alpine Cowboys (formerly Big Bend Cowboys), are the longest-running teams in the Pecos League’s history. Citing the upcoming new triple-A franchise coming to nearby El Paso in 2014, Andrew Dunn expressed concern over the Vaqueros’ ability to get sponsors for next year. He discussed the option, should the Vaqueros cease operations, of a new West Texas team or bringing back the Carlsbad Bats travel team which operated in the Pecos League’s first season (2011).
