The Sporting News’ blog had a recent article about Dmitri Young’s arrest for possession of marijuana. Young is still the bench coach and involved with player operations for the Oakland County Cruisers of the Frontier League. Here is what SN had to say:
It will be interesting to see what the team’s reaction will be if any of the players or other Cruisers’ personnel has an arrest for anything drug-related in the future. Hopefully the attention brought to the team by this situation will help the team reduce the chances of running afoul of the law for the rest of the season and into the foreseeable future.
Feel free to leave your thoughts on this situation, as it is one of the few instances in which an independent baseball team not only supported one of its one but also made a statement about its beliefs for an illegal act. Should you have knowledge about the in-season arrests of other independent baseball front office and/or coaching personnel in recent years, and how the front offices reacted, then you are welcome to leave resources and links in the comments field.
