USPBL Game 15: Diamond Hoppers hold on, beat Beavers 11-8

BOX SCORE AND GAME STATS By Don Drysdale – June 23, 2016 On a picture-perfect night at Jimmy John’s Field in Utica, MI, the Eastside Diamond Hoppers used a combination of timely hitting and Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers errors as they held on for a 11-8 victory. Coming into the game starting pitchers Nick Jensen-Clagg (Beavers) and Chris McDonald (Diamond Hoppers) were tied for sixth in the United Shore Professional Baseball League with a 1.68 ERA. By the time the game ended, those ERA’s looked much different. Birmingham-Bloomfield, who had won six games in a row, did not waste any time getting on the board as Dan Kennon singled off of Diamond Hoppers starting pitcher Chris McDonald and then later scored on an Eric Phillis sacrifice fly to put the Beavers in front 1-0 after the first inning. The Diamond Hoppers tied things up in the top of the second inning when Alex Delgado led off with a double and then came around to score when the next hitter, Jamie McMillan (3-for-4, 2 RBIs) singled. Birmingham-Bloomfield took the lead right back in the bottom of the frame thanks to Miles Williams, who doubled and then scored when Austin Leyritz grounded out to…
