By: Tyler Curran 8/29/16 UTICA, MI- Just two years ago Nic Wilson had numbers at Georgia State that landed him in the top 10 of the Sun Belt Conference leaders in categories including, homers (fourth in NCAA with 18), RBI’s, runs, on-base percentage and walks. Later in that 2014 breakout season, Wilson would be a 24th round selection in the MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. The power hitter has always brought the long ball with him making him the exciting player he is to watch. Wilson spent the 2014 & 2015 season in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. After hitting 10 home runs in his debut season with the Princeton Rays, Rookie affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, Wilson felt very proud of his first season in the minor leagues. The power numbers were in line but consistency at the plate was a little precarious. “It’s a big adjustment going from college to pro ball” Wilson explains. “They thought I’d figure out the batting average, walks, strikeouts eventually but the power numbers were what they were concerned about (home runs & RBI’s)” he continued.
