JOLIET, IL – The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy aimed to take game 3 after splitting last night’s double header against the Southern Illinois Miners. Matt Parish made his second start for the Miners as Illinois native Tyler House got the nod for the Slammers. Parish pitched 7 scoreless innings in his Miners’ debut, but Joliet’s hot offense pounced as they got a sac fly from Spencer Navin followed by a 3-run home run from Danny Zardon. Melvin Rodriguez followed him up with a majestic home run over the right field foul pole as they go back-to-back. Shortstop Luis Diaz picked up his first hit as a Slammer, doubling off the wall in left field to score Travis Bolin as the Slammers posted 6 runs in the first inning. Corey Sessions entered to start the 2nd inning for the Miners as Parish lasted only one inning and House settled in nicely on the rubber. Ryan Lashley got the Miners into the hit column in the 2nd with a solo home run. Southern Illinois added more runs to chip away after RBI’s from Romeo Cortina, Nolan Early, and Zack Taylor.
