CRESTWOOD, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, scored five runs late to rally to a 5-1 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts on Thursday, salvaging a game in the series. Schaumburg starter Gunnar Kines improved to 2-0 on the season with another stellar performance. Kines worked around three leadoff extra-base hits and allowed just a single run in seven innings of work. Blair Beck hit a solo homer in the second for the only run of the contest. Kines struck out 10, posting the seventh double-digit strikeout performance by a starter in team history. Owning just two hits through the first six innings, Schaumburg put together four in a three-run seventh, including three in a row. Seth Spivey tied the game with a double to deep right and Josh Gardiner put the Boomers ahead with an RBI single. James Keller would add a sacrifice fly. Gardiner and Keller also drove home runs in the ninth to pad the advantage. The Boomers finished with eight hits and have posted at least eight in every game this year.
