TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums(27-35) defeated the Florence Freedom(26-36) by the final score of 5-0, taking the first two games of this week’s three game series. The Bums started off quickly in tonight’s contest when Marcos Derkes led off the bottom of the first inning with a double to left. After moving to third on a ground out, Derkes scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by Steven Patterson. With one out in the second, Christian Santisteban doubled to right. Giancarlo Brugnoni then made it 3-0 by rocketing an opposite field two-run home over the right-center field wall for his seventh of the season. In the third, Steven Patterson blasted a solo shot, his team-leading tenth of the year, as he has now hit a home run in each of his last three games. The Beach Bums added a final run in the eighth after Derkes was hit by a pitch and scored on a Jose Vargas RBI single. Beach Bums’ starter Dylan Stoops went six innings to get the win, and improve to 6-3. He allowed just two hits, two walks, hit two batters, and struck out six.
